In 1973, new structures and goals for diversifying jobs that had formerly been the province of only men or only women within the Bell System were put into place. One of these jobs was that of Service Representative, which until that point had been primarily a women's occupation, going back as far as at least the 1940s. The skill sets of Service Rep and Operator overlapped greatly, with both speed james harden and diplomacy in high demand.

It was much easier for the lakers vs thunder Bell System to open jobs that were primarily staffed by women to men, than vice versa. The Customer Service area was much more quickly integrated, starting even before stephen miller 1973. Of course, for decades AT&T Call Centers have been staffed by both men and women.
