Day care centers abrupt closure leaves parents scrambling for alternatives [vdBbqVMToIc]

Families and employees of The Tot Spot child care center reportedly received a letter from the owners Tuesday that said the facility would be closing. The center, located on Brixton Drive, will close its doors Aug. 1, leaving parents with three weeks to find alternative care for their children. An anonymous parent who spoke to 13WHAM said his family didn't see the abrupt closure coming. "Honestly, it was panic," the parent said. "We're left there kind of wondering, like, 'What are we supposed to do?' Some of the day care centers in the region that we've lived in, we've been on the waitlist since 2023, so we were left kind of feeling very hopeless." Owners Mark and Wendy Mendola cited retirement as the reason for shutting down the last of their four child care centers after 35 years of business. The Macedon center currently provides care for 78 children, according to the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS). "Our personal experience with the center, up until this time, has been positive," the anonymous parent said. "I just can't believe that that this is kind of what we're left with and that the staff members are left with."
