Chuck Edwards, R-N.C., asked Kagan and Justice Amy Coney Barrett during a House Appropriations subcommittee hearing Tuesday whether the courts budget included funding for AI-assisted legal research or document review tools" and if there are safeguards in place to maintain confidentiality.Edwards also asked whether the Supreme Court had identified opportunities to streamline administrative functions through technology.Barrett said the play off serie b court is always seeking efficiency. She said the court was not there yet in turning to AI to gain efficiencies because of the risks that AI could present, but it is something that we're studying.AI seems to be infiltrating everything, so I'm sure at some point in the future, Barrett said.Members of the Supreme Court have not testified before Congress since 2019.
