Home runs from Elvis Andrus and Luis Robert Jr. secured a White Sox victory in Cincinnati to start the weekend series. Starting pitcher Lance Lynn earned the win, with 8 strikeouts over 6.2 innings pitched. The Reds took the lead early, with an RBI double from TJ Friedl in the third inning and two RBI singles in the fourth inning. The White Sox tied the game in the top of the fifth inning. Luis Robert Jr. and Yasmani Grandal reached base on back-to-back singles. Hanser Alberto reached on a force out, putting men on first and second for Elvis Andrus. Andrus crushed a fly ball to left field for a 3-run homer to tie the ball game. Jonathan India answered back with a home run of his own to give the Reds the lead once again. In the top of the sixth inning, Luis Robert Jr. joined the home run fun with a fly ball to center field, tacking on two runs and giving the team their first lead of the night. Relief pitcher Joe Kelly threw 3 strikeouts over 1.1 innings pitched and Reynaldo López closed out the ninth inning, securing a White Sox victory. Luis Robert Jr. completed a clutch double play in the bottom of the ninth inning, catching a line drive from Henry Ramos and picking off Jake Fraley at first base.
